Participation in the Regional Geographic Conference (IGU 2010) in Tel Aviv

From the 12th to the 16th of July 2010, three representatives of the organisers of UGI 2011 participated in the Regional Geographic Conference (IGU 2010) held in the city of Tel Aviv, Israel; they were the Director of the Military Geographic Institute of Chile who is also President of the UGI 2011 Local Organizing Committee (LOC), the Coordinator of LOC, and the leader of the UGI 2011 project at the firm FISA. S.A. (Col. Juan Vidal, Mr. Pedro Mahuzier and Miss Victoria Belloni respectively).

Among the main tasks carried out, there were meetings with the IGU Executive Committee and with representatives of the IGU Commissions. Colonel Vidal gave a presentation about the effects of the February 2010 earthquake in Chile and, at the closing ceremony, invited all attendees to participate in UGI 2011, to be held in November 2011 in Santiago.

During the event in Tel Aviv, the details of UGI 2011 were discussed with the IGU President, Mr. Ronald Abler, and opportunities were taken to announce and explain to the international scientific community the significance of this conference, in order to encourage the participation of potential paper authors and of organisations that could sponsor UGI 2011 or run booths in the exhibition. To this end meetings with major international organisations were held and copies of the First Call for Papers brochure were distributed.
