Dear Friends Chile is an ideal laboratory for geographic research, given the variety of its landscapes and its wealth of natural resources. The warmth and hospitality of its people also contribute to this unique opportunity to contemplate the topic of geography. Our programme includes scientific sessions, field trips, and a technical-trade exhibition, alongside social events. We look forward to seeing researchers, academics, students and the general public converge on this major event of great scientific relevance. For this conference, we are working under the concept “United and Integrated with the World” in order to extend the scope of this conference not only to Latin America but also to share our culture, style and viewpoint around the rest of the world. This integration is strengthened by overcoming the language barrier, as there will be a service for interpreting the scientific sessions between the English and Spanish languages. Our conference web site will be our permanent means of communication until we meet in person, in Santiago. Chile is proud to host this conference; for all those organizing this grand scientific gathering it will be very satisfying to receive you all here. |

Dear Colleagues, The IGU has very high hopes for the Santiago meeting; we hope that it proves to be a major step towards much greater and more intensive participation in the IGU by geographers from Chile and from all over Latin America. The IGU Conference theme - United and Integrated with the World - offers a timely and comprehensive organizing framework for the first IGU meeting in many years in Latin America. I look forward to seeing you at this enjoyable and productive event and to thanking you for attending. |
