Useful information for visitors to Chile

Currency and forms of payment:

MoneyThe Chilean peso ($) is the currency of Chile. Most payments must be made in Chilean pesos; US dollars canbe used in payment only in the duty-free area of the Airport. However, there are numerous exchange houses and banks where major currencies such as US dollars and Euros can be easily converted to pesos. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and major shops; the credit card payment involves subsequent conversion to Chilean pesos.

 

ClimateClimate:

Santiago has a Mediterranean climate, with average temperatures of 20 ºC/68 ºF in the month of November

 

ElectricityElectricity:

The power supply in Chile is 220 volts, 50 hertz.

 

TimeTime:

Local time is GMT (-) 3 hours in the southern hemisphere summer.

 

TransportTransportation Within Chile:

Chile has a very good road network, together with first class long distance bus/coach transportation. Most major car rental companies have representatives in the capital, additionally Santiago boasts one of the most modern and efficient subway systems in Latin America – the Santiago Metro.

TelephoneTelephones:

Direct dial telephones can be found the length of the country and the mobile phone communications infrastructure is well-set up.

 

AirportInternational Airport:

Santiago has a large, modern airport, one of the safest and most efficient in the world served by a wide range of airlines.
